Elephant Energy

Elephant Energy works with established businesses in major Namibian towns and market centers which serve as sales outlets, offering a variety of energy products to meet the energy needs of area residents. In addition to direct sales to customers, these shops support a network of Traveling Sales Agents who conduct sales of clean energy technologies in their rural communities, thereby delivering products and education directly to the doorsteps of rural villagers. This model is ideal for reaching rural customers because the Traveling Sales Agent, being part of the community, can readily provide products and information to customers, and because the customer is purchasing the product from someone they know, facilitating a more trusting relationship and natural flow of information.

This system also allows for on-going contact with customers, which is important for the after-sale services necessary to prolong the life of clean energy products. Traveling sales agents receive income from the margin they receive from the products they sell, thereby delivering value to communities not only in products themselves, but in product delivery.  

Through our Solar For All Partnership, a program financed by the Ministry For Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Austrian Development Cooperation and the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Elephant Energy has scaled up its distribution to seven regions that encompass over half of Namibia's population (see map).
